I adore this! Just last night I was standing in the doorway to our second-floor deck, looking at the streetlights and street in the darkness and mist. Sometimes I wonder if anyone realizes that the only other time women wear slips and lingerie is when they're contemplating the world by themselves.

There is an American painter who introduced the realistic portrait from behind. He used his daughter as his model, and painted the back of her head with a beautiful ponytail and a wonderful red and white sweater. This reminds me of it because of how we are faced to omit the individuality of this person and be faced with her bleak surroundings first and foremost. Lovely.
